Storytime: Where I Am Now (It Begins…)

By

First off, I’m overweight at 193 pounds. According to my Bikejournal entries, I weighed 183 in October 2006, By March of 2007 I was 190. By May 1, after riding a bunch, I was back down to 185. By June of that summer I had ridden myself down to the high 170’s. By August I finally hit 175. My last entry before successfully completing CFC put me at 177. By August 2008 I was back up to 190. 2009 started out terrible with a 197 weigh in on January 1. This year started out at 193. Looks like this year has been spent between 185 and 193. Not good. I’d like to go back and check my weight stats from 1999 and 2000, but I’d probably not take it well. So there it is. It’s been about three years since I’ve been close to my goal weight.

According to my Dailymile blog, I’ve run exactly 9.3 miles in the past four weeks, 28 miles in the past six months and 107 miles in the past year. Unbelievable. Hopefully being accountable to this journal will fix this. Not exactly sure what my goals will end up being, but for starters I need to build to 3-4 days of 30 minutes of continuous running per week.

Last week I did a continuous 3.1 mile run in 29:35, which was the quickest (read: least slow) run I’ve done since March of this year. According to Daniel’s Running Formula that rates me a 31+ VDOT. Ten years ago I rated a 42 when I did the 1:47 half in 2000.

Also according to Dailymile, I’ve cycled 562 miles in the past six months, but 1635 in the past year. Not great, but I got a bunch of miles in the first three months of the year. This year has been my best year cycling since I did 5550 miles in 2007 getting ready for CFC. Clearly the goal of a riding event helps. CFC 2011? I hope so.

EDIT: Ok, so I got brave and went back to my RunLog data. Here it is…

Hate to say it, but when you go back and look at my weight numbers, the race results sort of make sense. Dropping some weight it going to be crucial. Feels weird to be able to look back on all this time gone by. What I wouldn’t give to be back at 175 pounds like I was only three years ago (175 pounds sounds like a reasonable goal, no?). Or able to run a 5k in 22 minutes like I was only 10 years ago (and I remember I was all bummed out at that time back then).

Not getting any younger. Move it or lose it. Time to get busy.

Go.
